Don -
For about 6 years, I had house finches nest - successfully - on the Christmas wreaths on my front door. It's fascinating and the up-close (from inside) look at the nestlings is wonderful. This year, I hung from the porch roof, and leaning against the house, a round Christmas decoration with greens inside. The house finches are at the feeders, so I'm hoping they decide to take up residence. It's a privilege to have them so near.

   Enjoy your "little family."

Subject: [Mnbird] Wreath for nest

Last year a pair of House Finches built their first nest of the year in a balsam fir Christmas Wreath hanging on my shed. They and a couple of others had roosted there all winter. It was faded yellow when they built the nest. But it worked.

This year a pair is building a nest again. And another pair is building a nest in an identical wreath my neighbors have hanging on their garage. Imprinting perhaps?
