Two cranes were observed foraging in the wetlands on the south side of the
dike next to the lock and dam. This is the same area that has hosted a
nesting pair for the past several years.
Also present was a lone Turkey Vulture, along the driveway that leads to
the lock and dam. It was perched next to the road, and as it took off
toward the river, it startled up a Rough-legged Hawk.
A few Common Grackles have also arrived in the area, and the eagle nest
northwest of the dam is occupied.
