You should put it up within the next week as the scouts are here or on their way. If you google purple martin you will find a couple of sites that can offer much advice and some helpful products. One, the Purple Martin Conservation Assn. has several products that can help you control House Sparrows which are a major problem for any would-be purple martin landlord. See if you can find a copy of the book "How to Control House Sparrows' which is still offered by some martin groups and also, I believe, by the North American Bluebird Society. They do like to be near water. Make sure your house is out in the open and away from trees. Good luck. They are wonderful birds to have around.

Can anyone tell me when is a good time to put out a Martin House and do you have to live by a body of water to get Martins. So far all we've had is sparrows the house in down and cleaned ready to put back up when the time is best. We live on a farm in Faribault Co..
