Was walking with a couple of distance-keeping friends around Lake
Hiawatha at 2 pm today
when we heard calls from up high. Spotted 30-some odd Sandhill Cranes in
v-formations
drifting south to north over the the lake. On the lake were a couple of
Loons, a number of
Common Mergansers, Mallards and Geese, and a grebe too far away to be
sure but likely a
Pied-billed. In the trees around the lake were a Belted Kingfisher and
what looked like a Song
Sparrow.
