[Mnbird] Mnbird Digest, Vol 58, Issue 5

Thank you for that!
I know many use Facebook now, but I do not. I work in technology, and in
data, even!
And I forswear off of social media but for LinkedIn, and I am careful about
what I allow to be used of mine.
It is fine, if you do not care, I suppose, but, nothing is gotten for free.
It is alarming how many trackers are involved alone on apps on smart phones.
And yes, I use one. I do not eschew tech, I am just careful about using
it.

Anyway, because of the high use of FB now, I know that many who used to
post on MNBIRD do so no longer, and no longer read it.
That is regretful, but it is the way of things.
I also still enjoy writing longhand. Who does THAT anymore?

Someday, I suppose, with the disappearance of more birds and even perhaps
yards, people will view via Virtual Reality devices the birds that SHOULD
be in that vicinity.
Then instead of posting what birds are where, people might post for rare
sightings based on some program that intermittantly makes them show up here
and there based on some probability algorithm, for a brief period of time.
Those hooked in at the right time will get to sight that bird and can post
it to some site automatically linked to their device registered when their
eyes and brain register it correctly.
Hopefully I won't be around if that reality really occurs. It doesn't sound
at all like what I prefer, quiet walks where I can hear things softly
calling, pausing to let the squirrel stop chattering over my presence so
that all the winged and furry things come back out. I like to hear the wind
whisper in the pines, and shush the oaks.
I like to find the tiny nest hidden in the bush that I passed by nearly
every day, never knowing it was there until the leaves were just as the
birds were, fledged and gone in the wind. And see how carefully it was
stitched together with grass, spider webs, and what else. Leaving it be,
because it is more of a gift where it is.

Thank you to those who respond to posts - it makes me know you are out
there, and makes it worthwhile to well, continue posting!

I enjoy each and every one that I read, and in the spring, I follow them,
looking for where the orioles are and trying to forecast when they will
arrive here.
