Cool temperatures seemed to keep most bird activity at or close to ground
level, which afforded great views, out of the wind in the sunlit ravine. At
the edge of the parking lot was the first of many cooperative Swainson's
Thrush. Nearby, a N Parula foraged on the ground within a few feet of the
entrance to the trail, in close proximity to a Catbird.
It didn't take long to hear the song of the Wood Thrush, one of the species
that stayed in the upper canopy, along with the Rose-breasted Grosbeak,
Great-crested Flycatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and Vireos, Red-eyed and
Yellow-throated.

The Alder Flycatcher, on the other hand did most of its hawking and calling
down low. Likewise, these were at eye or ground level: Ovenbird, Scarlet
Tanager, Eastern Towhee, and several Warbler species: Magnolia, Pine,
Blue-winged, Chestnut-sided, Redstart, and Black-and-white. The Yellow and
Common Yellowthroat Warblers were heard calling from their usual wet areas
beyond the stream bed ravine.

There were still many White-throated Sparrows, and House Wrens were also
abundant. Both species were quite vocal, outdoing the Robins, Cardinals,
Blue-jays, Chickadees, and woodpecker species: Red-bellied, Pileated,
Downy, and Sapsucker. The species one would expect in this suitable
habitat, based on their preferences, and past birding experiences there,
were not detected: Cerulean Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher and Winter Wren.
Another visit may well have more positive result on those.
