At the archery unit of Spring Lake Park Reserve today, at around 1:00, a
male Lark Sparrow perched in a small deciduous tree close to the trail, and
burst into full song. Both his sound and his bold, brightly-marked plumage
were stunning in beauty, rivaling the appeal, for me, of LeConte's and
Nelson's.
(To be more specific, the site was in the recently cleared N portion of the
open field, shortly after the trail emerges from the woods.)
