Southeastern Minnesota Birding Days
Field Trip Report
 
Here are some of the species that our group observed in Houston & Fillmore counties on the MRVVAC Southeastern Minnesota Birding days field trip.  
 
February 18
Houston County
Gray Partridge - 4 - CR 3, 1/4 mile East of Buckley Road - These were observed in a field on the South side of the road.
Rough-legged Hawk
Golden Eagle - CR 5 & Payton Road - An adult Golden Eagle was observed at 4:00 pm soaring over the ridge on the South side of CR 5.
Eurasian Collared-Dove - 3 were observed in the town of Caledonia, at East Main & Badger Streets.  Several of the Doves were observed mating.
American Kestrel - 13 American Kestrel's were observed at various locations in both Houston & Fillmore counties over the two day period.
Merlin - CR 3, 1/8 mile East of Buckley Road.
Tufted Titmouse - 9 at three locations, including 5 at the Brownsville overlook along Highway 26, South of Brownsville.
Eastern Bluebird - CR 5, just East of CR 23.
American Robin - Caledonia, in several locations.
Snow Bunting - CR 3
Purple Finch - Caledonia & Hokah
Pine Siskin - Caledonia
 
February 19
Fillmore county
Northern Flicker - Houston County - Fillmore Road, just West of CR 15.
Mourning Dove
Horned Lark - 100s observed over the two days in both counties.
Tufted Titmouse
Winter Wren - Houston County - Beaver Creek Valley State Park - observed in the brush pile on the South side of the creek by the swing bridge.
Purple Finch - 10+ at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning center.
