[Mnbird] Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, Eurasian Collared Doves; Dakota County

This afternoon, a flock of 50-60 Snow Buntings was foraging in the farm
fields northwest of the intersection of Station Trail and 170th, at UMORE
Park. They flushed up a few times, but quickly returned to ground--and just
as quickly "disappeared" against the background. However, by aligning
sights directly down the furrowed rows, it was possible to get decent views
of them, as they worked their way across the field.
A subsequent pass through the town of Vermilion turned up at least 5 or 6
Eurasian Collared Doves, feeding at a residence on the street just north of
the main road. The same feeders have hosted this species for several years
in a row, though they also frequent the lots around the seed business and
grain elevators in town.
Along Emery Avenue, just south of 170th Ave., a flock of Horned Larks was
foraging both in and beside the road. They, too, flushed and returned,
landing, cooperatively on the gravel. The thing missing was the chorus of
their tinkling voices, whether it was too cold for song, or too cold to
open the car window. Hopefully, it won't be long before that changes.
